How we charge
On-demand collections
Collect Bill Data or Interval Data from each meter on your customer’s utility account manually via the dashboard or automatically via our API. You’re only charged for the amount of data you request.
Easily calculate your on-demand collection costs based on how much data you need:
Pricing details
1-7 months of data = $1.50 per month
8-12 months of data = $12.00 flat rate
13-36 months of data = $12.00 + $1.50 per additional month of data after 12 months
Scheduled collections
Enroll meters in an Ongoing Monitoring subscription to schedule data collections. You choose the collection frequency (monthly, weekly, or daily), and we handle the rest.
The table below details the monthly subscription cost of Ongoing Monitoring for one (1) meter based on the collection frequency and your payment plan:
Monitoring frequency | Pay As You Go | $50 prepaid | $250 prepaid | $1,000 prepaid | $3,000 prepaid |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Monthly | $3.00 | $2.85 | $2.70 | $2.55 | $2.40 |
Weekly | $12.00 | $11.40 | $10.80 | $10.20 | $9.60 |
Daily | $30.00 | $28.50 | $27.00 | $25.50 | $24.00 |
Pricing FAQ
Can I use UtilityAPI for free?
Yes, registering for an account and requesting access to a utility account holder’s data are free activities. Also, the first collection of each month is free regardless of collection type (i.e., on-demand or scheduled)
If you don’t have access to a utility account yet, demo data is available in our dashboard and APIs so you can test out our products.
Are there additional charges for using your API?
Nope, our APIs are free and publicly available to everyone via our API documentation. We recommend starting with our quickstart guide.
What is UtilityAPI’s pricing model?
We use two pricing models for collecting your customers’ utility data from each meter:
- On-demand collections are charged based on the number of months of Bill Data or Interval Data requested.
- Scheduled collections are subscription fees for each meter enrolled in Ongoing Monitoring. The subscription fee is based on the collection frequency (i.e., daily, weekly, monthly) and your plan for enrolling a meter in Ongoing Monitoring.
We do not charge for making API calls.
What is data duration?
Data duration applies to On-demand collections and refers to the number of months of data you request to get from a meter on a customer’s utility account.
You can set your data duration to as short as 1 month or as long as 36 months. By default, all on-demand collection data durations are set to 12 months.
How is my account charged for on-demand collections?
Initial historical collections and refreshes are considered on-demand collections.
- We charge the credit or debit card on your account or your account balance for initial historical collection or refreshes as they occur, based on the data duration selected. If a collection doesn’t meet our success criteria, we will credit your account, as described below.
What makes an on-demand collection successful:
- On-demand collections define success as collecting all bill PDFs or 90% of the interval data for every month of your data duration. If we detect gaps in the available data for bill PDFs or interval data for a month, we’ll credit your account for that month after 7 days.
For example, if your data duration is 13 months and one of the months does not meet our successful collection criteria — the 13th month has less than 90% interval data or is missing a bill PDF — we will automatically credit your account for the value of one month ($1.50) within 7 days.
How is my account charged for scheduled collections?
Our scheduled collections service is called Ongoing Monitoring.
- We charge your payment method or account balance a flat subscription fee monthly for each meter enrolled in Ongoing Monitoring. The Ongoing Monitoring subscription fee for each meter depends on the scheduled collection frequency (i.e., monthly, weekly, daily).
What makes a scheduled collection successful:
Scheduled collections are considered successful when we monitor your enrolled meter for the availability of new data based on that meter’s subscription frequency. If new data is available, Ongoing Monitoring does not guarantee the successful collection of all available data.
We may monitor a meter enrolled in Ongoing Monitoring and find no new data available. We still consider this a successful scheduled collection. If new data becomes available at the next scheduled monitoring date, we will attempt to collect the data, but we do not guarantee success.
Do I have to set a default data duration?
No, each account’s default data duration is set to 12 months by default. You can change your account’s default duration in your dashboard settings at any time.
How far back can I set a data duration on a collection?
You can set your data duration up to 36 months.
Will I be charged every month for my Prepaid plan?
No. Prepaid plans are not charged monthly. Any unused credits will roll over each month.
By default, prepaid plans automatically refill once they are 100% depleted, but this can be turned off under the “Payment Settings” section via your dashboard.
How do I change my plan?
You can change your plan here. You can also access the plan change page in your Payment Settings anytime.
Can I get a refund if I don’t use my prepaid plan?
Unfortunately, we are unable to process refunds for unused credits.
What payment methods does UtilityAPI accept?
We accept payments via credit or debit cards.
Can I set up a customized plan to fit my business needs?
Yes, we are happy to discuss a custom plan that fits your business needs. Please contact us to learn more.
