Fixed pricing

UtilityAPI charges a fixed fee for both Initial Collections and Ongoing Monitoring of a customer’s meter data.

An Initial Collection is the first historical collection for a meter. Subscribing to data monitoring for a meter is called Ongoing Monitoring and monitoring can be scheduled at a monthly, weekly, or daily frequency.

The first collection of each month is free regardless of collection type (i.e., Initial, Ongoing Monitoring, or Refresh).

Per month of data pricing

For a Refresh collection, UtilityAPI charges per month of data collected up to (5) months of new data. For 5 months of new data or more pricing is capped at the cost of your Initial Collection.

Pricing FAQ

Can I use UtilityAPI for free?

Yes, registering for an account, sending data requests to utility account holders, and collecting Meter Data upon authorization are all free activities. Also, the first collection of each month is free regardless of collection type (i.e., historical, monitoring, or refresh)

If you don’t have access to a utility account yet, demo data is available in our dashboard and APIs so you can test out our products.

Are there additional charges for using your API?

Nope, our APIs are free and publically available to everyone via our API documentation. We recommend starting with our quickstart guide.

What is UtilityAPI’s pricing model?

We use two pricing models to charge for manual data collection or automated monitoring of new data availability at a meter level. Learn more about our pricing model here.

What are the benefits of a Prepaid plan?

Prepaid accounts offer greater flexibility, enabling teams to streamline data collection, access API features, and maintain seamless ongoing monitoring.

API Access
To use the API for any action involving a charge, such as manually collecting data from a meter or automated monitoring of a meter, your account must be a $50 prepaid plan. Your free collection each month can be made via API regardless of plan.

Enhanced sub-user abilities
Sub-users of accounts on a prepaid plan can initiate data collection and download data independently, making it easier for sales teams to work efficiently.

Ongoing Monitoring Subscriptions
A prepaid plan is required to maintain an Ongoing Monitoring subscription. This ensures uninterrupted monitoring at your chosen frequency and allows for automatic updates when new data becomes available.

Will I be charged every month for my Prepaid plan?

No. Prepaid plans are not charged monthly. Any unused credits will roll over each month.

By default, prepaid plans automatically refill once they are 100% depleted, but this can be turned off under the “Payment Settings” section via your UtilityAPI Dashboard.

How do I change my plan?

Navigate to “Settings” in your dashboard, then go to “Payment Settings” and click “Settings” next to “current plan” where you will be able to change your payment plan.

Can I get a refund if I don’t use my prepaid plan?

Unfortunately, we are unable to process refunds for unused credits.

What payment methods does UtilityAPI accept?

We accept payments via credit or debit cards.
